After many years of hard work and service, Wayne Simms (SSK) and Dennis Thorp (WOK) have retired from the Oklahoma spring sale. They have passed the baton on to Kisa and Me (Bill) Francis of Stoney Creek Kikos (STO), which we called on our friends, Mike & Jessie Brust of Square One Kikos (SQF) to come on board with us as Host Farms.
We are proud and excited to introduce the New Green Country Invitational, NGCI!
This year the sale will be in Okmulgee, Oklahoma at the county fairgrounds May 2nd & 3rd. We have 27 consignors representing 13 different states; 100 live lots and 12 semen lots. We hope to see everyone in person, but if not, Top Livestock will have the auction live to take on-line bids.
One of the first things I get asked is “What has changed from the past sales?” And the biggest thing is it has gone from a 2-day sale, to a 3-day event with consignors checking-in on Thursday and having a conference Friday with availability to see the goats all day as well as Saturday morning.
On consignors, there are several that have been invited back that have supported the old sale well. We have also made a few changes and we have several new consignors to this sale and have rotating guest consignor spots too.
“How do I become a consignor?” is another that has come up frequently. Come to the sale, introduce yourself and ask “what can I do to help?” is first the step.
Some of the questions we will be asking potential consignors,
We are looking for people to with good attitudes, be willing to help out and bring their best Purebred or New Zealand does to consign.
On Friday, May 2nd, we will have the Kiko Meat Goat Conference that is open and free to the public. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Santiago Saavedra Botero, will begin at 10am. He is speaking on in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures and practices.
That afternoon beginning at 1pm there will be several speakers from the FSA and NRCS offices talking about farm loans and other programs that each organization offers.
Later in the afternoon we have a Producers Panel table top discussion, so be sure to bring your questions.
That evening we will host a social with catered BBQ, music and entertainment. Saturday May 3rd the barn will be open all morning for public viewing and the sale will start at 1pm right after some very cool give-a-ways and announcements.
Our concession stand this year is being operated both days by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 10. All proceeds go their organization.
The conference speakers will be broadcast live on our New Green Country Invitational Facebook page also look there for updates, info and we will start having consignor spotlight articles beginning in the month of April.
